Food Tripping: Goya Chocolates, Part 4

Goya Dark Seashells with dark cocoa filling is packaged the same way as Goya Seashells with praline filling.

I like this since by default I like dark chocolate better than milk chocolate. Can't really taste the dark cocoa filling since 1) the filling is thin and 2) it probably tastes much like the dark chocolate coating.

Today's Lunch: Dec. 15, 2011

Steamed vegetables with butter and shrimps, with some salt to taste. Mom had me finish this bowl so there won't be leftovers. Good thing I love steamed veggies.

SM Mall of Asia Christmas Decors 2011

Passed by the SM Mall of Asia yesterday and today. Took pictures of their Christmas decors. Their cutest prop this year? - the "snow globe" with fake falling snow: people can go inside to have their pictures taken. I say it is cooler to get inside it then have your picture taken from outside. That way it looks like you got stuck inside a toy.

Randomness: Dec. 13, 2011

Photo taken outside the Cut-Chiva Salon at midnight. It always amuses me how this place looks like a bar from afar at this hour. When it is open, with all the lights on, it looks as bright as your regular salon. However, when it is closed, they leave the blue lights on.

Food Tripping: Goya Chocolates, Part 3

Milk chocolates in seashell shapes (a fish shape got into the mix somehow), praline filling, placed on tray, in a box, that slides into another box, made in Belgiuim... Goya Seashells with praline filling is quite fancy eh?

It is soft/melts at room temperature, but it is kinda hard once taken out from the refrigerator. It also has a thinner filling compared to imports from Australia/US/Europe. Overall, it's not bad, Goya, not bad.

Food Tripping: Goya chocolates, Part 2

Goya Bit: Crispy

I'm a big fan of the ORIGINAL Nestle Crunch. But apart from that, I haven't really liked other rice crispies/chocolate candies. Which means I'm biased to not liking Goya Bits: Crispy. It's like biting into chocolate coated air. The chocolate coating and candy coating taste good though, just not the rice crispy part. To repeat: I am biased against rice crispies & chocolate in general, with the exception of the ORIGINAL Nestle Crunch (not a fan of later nestlecrunch variants either).

Goya Bits: Peanut

Chocolate covered peanuts. First I ever had of the kind was M&M. Alternative "Philippine" brands you can find now in stores are Jack and Jill Nips and Goya Bits. I say "Philippine" because Goya Bits are actually made in Indonesia, so it is technically an import. The Goya Bits pieces are smaller than Nips, not because it has less chocolate, but the sugar coating is thinner. Both Nips and Bits are smaller than M&Ms because they use smaller peanuts and have thinner chocolate coating. Not M&Ms, but not disappointing either. Addictive if you like the nuts/chocolate combination in your candy.

Food Tripping: Goya chocolates, Part 1

Anyone else find it exciting that Goya has made new, better variants of chocolate candies after Singapore based Petra Foods (via Delfi Foods) bought it from Nestle in 2006? In the process it stepped up the game of chocolate candy making in the Philippines. Note: though a lot of Goya candies are made in the Philippines, a quick look at the packaging will reveal that some are manufactured in Indonesia (Bits, Quadros, Take-it) and Belgium (Seashells).

Chunky is packed with cashews and it is a large, heavy bar you can use to whack a person on the head the same way you could whack a person with a Toblerone bar. Ha ha ha! Unless you gobble chocolate like cookie monster, this lunk of a bar is better eaten by smaller chunks over time, or shared with a friend or two.

Goya Intense: Dark Chocolate with Blueberries and Cornflakes. If you like added flavor to your chocolate that is NOT from a nut, blueberries mixed with dark chocolate is for you. Best eaten at room temperature because the chocolate is softer and the taste explodes in your mouth at first bite. This is too rich to eat more than one bar per sitting - but you'd want the whole bar for yourself.

Orange Peel is a combination of two things i like: orange and dark chocolate. From the way it is packed (thin round chocolates in a tray), this box is ideal to break open and shared with people you've just had a meal with: you know, when you just want a bit of chocolate to top off a meal but don't want to eat a whole bar.

Do you know what a typewriter is?

This pic is taken from the PNB Anniversary exhibit. We have a similar typewriter, table and stapler at home ... and I think they're all older than these.

That Glowing Green Thing

Green Lantern's showing at the theaters and this big thing was plunked right in the middle of the garden (?) in between Glorietta 4 & 5. Had to stop and take a picture, but since I'm using a cellphone and it's dark...crappy picture.

before security told me I can't take pics in the supermarket

You can only imagine how many kids have coaxed their mommy or daddy to buy candy from this stall.
-----------------~@~-----------------

Dang, Azkals are so popular they even have their own magazine.
-----------------~@~-----------------

Why can't we package our Cassave chips this way and export them?

-----------------~@~-----------------

My picture taking spree was cut short by the security guard telling me I can't take pictures inside the supermarket. Ha ha ha!
